EnviroTas-AS Wastewater Treatment System Process

Thanks to a five-stage treatment process the EnviroTas Advanced Secondary Wastewater Treatment System produces a class-leading treated effluent quality that can be used for irrigating under lawns and onto the garden.

Understanding the Wastewater Treatment Process

The wastewater treatment process is designed to remove solids, break down organic matter, and reduce nutrients so that the treated water can be safely reused or dispersed. A modern aerated wastewater treatment system like the EnviroTas-AS offers far greater efficiency than traditional septic tanks. Unlike older systems that only provide basic storage and digestion, the EnviroTas-AS uses a five stage natural treatment process to produce clear, odourless water suitable for irrigation under lawns and gardens and is safe for personnel and the environment.

For families, this means reliable and safe residential sewage treatment Tasmania wide. For businesses and councils, it means a solution that meets environmental standards and performs consistently over time.

Stage 1 & 2

The first step in the wastewater treatment process is called primary treatment. In these stages, solids are separated from liquids inside the first two chambers of the wastewater treatment system. Toilet wastes and other solids remain here, where a natural digestion process begins. Anaerobic micro-organisms quickly multiply in ideal conditions, breaking down offensive matter into a stable, inert waste. This is an essential part of the process, as it reduces the load for later stages. To protect the microbial action, it is important not to flush harsh chemicals such as toilet cleaners or anti-bacterial products through the system, as they can disrupt the natural balance.

This stage also relies on sedimentation. Heavy particles sink to the bottom, while lighter materials rise to the top, leaving the liquids ready for further treatment.

Primary Treatment takes place across 2 stages.  In a regular septic system, treatment would stop here and the effluent would be pumped into the surrounding soil, relying on the environment to further break down the effluent. The EnviroTas-AS will use the next 3 stages to produce the class-leading effluent quality that it is known and respected for.

Stage 3

The liquid waste passes into the third stage of treatment after solids have been separated. The microbes present are used to assist in breaking down the wastewater. Inside the aeration chamber, the microbes thrive and multiply in the presence of oxygen.

A constant air supply is maintained by a pump in a protective green enclosure above the system. This steady aeration ensures the microbes can work effectively. The result is a cleaner, more efficient breakdown of waste compared to a simple septic tank, which does not provide the same oxygen-rich environment.

EnviroTas-AS is categorised as an advanced secondary wastewater treatment system, which is more reliable and environmentally-friendly than the older options.

Stage 4

Following aeration, the liquid flows into the sedimentation chamber and will settle under quiescent conditions. Any solid particles, which are suspended in the aerated effluent, will settle out and are returned automatically via a sludge return to the first chamber.

At this point, if the water is dispersed below the surface, it is suitable for use in irrigation under lawns and garden beds.

Stage 5

The next step is tertiary treatment. This stage focuses on polishing the water to further ensure it meets safety standards. If your system distributes the outfall above ground, then chlorination is required by law. Due to the quality of the treated effluent, sub surface irrigation does not require chlorination. However, if required, a mild dose is used for preventing biofilm growth in the irrigation system.

The water distributed from the treatment system is clean, odourless and safe.

The aerated, clarified, and disinfected water contains natural nutrients such as phosphates and nitrates. Too many of these can cause environmental issues like algal blooms in waterways. The EnviroTas-AS includes a nutrient reduction stage that lowers these concentrations by up to 75%. As part of an advanced secondary wastewater treatment system, this is a critical step. It ensures the final effluent is safe for the environment while still providing beneficial moisture for plants when used in irrigation.

The Five Stage Natural Treatment Process

The EnviroTas-AS works through a five stage natural treatment process that follows the same principles found in nature. Each stage, primary treatment, secondary treatment, sedimentation, tertiary treatment, and nutrient reduction, plays a role in producing clean, safe water.

By mimicking natural cycles and avoiding the use of harsh chemicals, the system provides a sustainable solution for both households and businesses. The end result is water that can be safely reused on your property without harming the environment.
